Hiya!!

I'm 3 days pre op and beginning to get nervous!!

Not the op itself or how I'll feel after, its the camera down the throat thing!

Dreading it...

worried my throat will close up and they won't be able to get it in,

worried I'll be sick

worried I'll choke and die!

Can anyone put my mind at rest please....I'm shaking already!!

Amanda

xx

If you are talking about the upper endoscopy, put your mind at ease, it was a breeze. I too was freaked about it. I have a horriffic gag reflex, but the anesthetist assured me that he would be certain i was properly sedated before they started and i don't remember a thing about it at all. i was worried for no reason. good luck to you. hopefully for you it will be just as easy. but, i would make sure they know your fears and if you feel you aren't sedated enough, please let your anesthetist know.

I too was a little nervous about the throat thing but they put me to sleep before doing the procedure so I never even felt them go in and when i finally came through (they woke me up because I was sleeping like a baby) they were talking to me and explaining that they were going to take me to my room. They said my surgery was a cinch and that they even repaired my hernia which I didn't even know. I walked a lot once I got to my room to keep the gas down and as a result I didn't even have to sleep with the cuffs that they put on your legs to keep you from getting blood clots. I enjoyed every minute of the surgery and I am loving my band. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I wouldn't change a thing. I'm enjoying every day of my life because every day is different my band and I are becoming one more and more each day. So don't worry be happy, everything will be alright.

A friend had hers done at the same place last week....no sedation just a throat numbing spray...she hated every minute of it

I survived the upper endo.... the hurry up and wait was the biggest thing; but I've surrendered to the entire pre-op process - fasting, testing and refraining from eatting.

I was "out" within seconds of the tooth/mouth guard being put in; woke up 45 minutes later...sleepy with a sore throat and very sore bump on my inside lip that is painful still...

had some internal pain going down my esphogus/in my stomach... found out the doctor did several biopsies which was the cause. Late this afternoon I really had discomfort as the meds wore off... but Tylenol has stopped that.

Had a very small appetite which helped get through the 1st day of the pre-op fast;

tomorrow I start the trial/error of several kinds of Protein drinks...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
