Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I live in the SW of England, did loads of research, and have decided to go to see the Boys in Brugge (Dr Dillemans) . Have also found an aftercare package for 12 mnths for £699 to include absolutely everything, with the WLS group- I am travelling alone to belguim and am just staying 1 extra night and coming back alone as well- I am looking forward to it all.. I did loads of research befor i made my decision- I'd love to hear from anyone who would like to chat... I'm a relative light wieght with a BMI of 34 and I know I'd never get a Uk Dr to be happy to band me- but I'm looking for prevention rather than cure... I dont want to wait.. I want to start my new life ASAP..

Great forum.. hope to hear from you..

Hi there, I was a BMI of around 35 and was banded Jan 25/08 in Tijuana, Mexico at a cost of $7500.00 plus flight. Like you, I could never have been banded here in Canada at that low of a BMI.

You know, this was the best decision regarding my health (physical and mental) that I have ever made! So far, I have lost around 40 lbs and feel great. My battle with weight has been most of my life, I am 46 and fat since age around 6. I have lost and gained a hundred times and was fed up! This band is my tool to keep me on track. I can no longer eat large amounts, it is physically impossible!

I wish you all the best in your NEW life and keep us all posted on your journey. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
