Fill 4 Weeks Out?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on May 16th and am scheduled for a fill on June 6th...exactly 4 weeks out, right? I find it strange that the PA scheduled the first fill for 4 weeks out when the Dr. told me that he waited until 6 weeks out because of fear of slippage.

Do you think I should call and reschedule for two weeks later or at least ask if it was an oversight? Hell...I'm getting a fill before I meet with the Dr.? I haven't even met with my surgeon yet. At my 1 week post-op visit I met with his nurse.

Was anyone else filled 4 weeks out or did the majority of people wait six weeks?

I just don't want to increase my chances of slippage or erosion.

Hello!

My surgeon is a very cautious surgeon and does not like to do a fill before week eight. That being said I did ask to have it at seven since I was unavailable the one day a week they do it for the next four weeks.

I then learned that 6-8 weeks is the acceptable fill-period.

After reading many posts I understand that each doctor is different. Definitely talk to the PA and find out why he would do it at four when you were told six by surgeon. My PA seems even more cautious then my surgeon since he sees and hears on a daily basis if there are any problems.

Follow your gut - no pun intended - and see if they'll wait for the sixth week. After all you are the client/patient.

G'Luck!

I was banded on May 14th and I will have my first fill on June 10th...My Dr says he does a small fill on the 4th week because that week seems to be the hardest on us banders! He did say that If I decided not to have it then, then its okay!!! I can wait...If I dont think I need it...

I had my first fill 3 weeks out. I got 3 cc in a 10 cc band. I'm scheduled for one next week which will be 4 weeks after the first. I guess I'll continue on the four week cycle until I hit my sweet spot or the "green zone", as he calls it. My doc is an aggressive filler though. I'm very ready for #2. Good luck.

Thanks so much for your feedback. I am going to give the PA a call on Monday morning and see what she needs to say. I'll admit that I'm nervous about fills. I'm afraid of being nauseous because I have to go back to work after the fill. The good thing is that my office is one block away from the hospital where I get my fills...so if anything goes wrong I just have to walk back!

Thanks again.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
