Surgery will be later than I thought

Recommended Posts

Today I had my last doctor's visit for the six-month supervised diet my health insurance required. I was excited to get my class scheduled and get a surgery date for June. Well, the May class is filled and I can't take a class until June. So, I probaly won't have the surgery until July, or possibly August. Ugh! Also, now they tell me that it's a two week liquid diet before the surgery. I thought they said one week on the liquid diet previously. I am hanging in there, but this had been a long road. GOOD NEWS is I lost 10 pounds this month!!! Looks like I will have sometime to lose some more prior to the surgery.

Sorry to hear about your surgery postponement. However, it sounds like you are having good success with your current eating plan. That can only help you out post surgery. My chosen doc's office tells me June or July, and I've not heard any updates for several weeks. I keep telling myself IT'S ALMOST JUNE!!! to keep my encouragement level up, but I am sure looking forward to having a date with surgery! I know where you are coming from!

Good luck to you - please continue to keep us posted...

Thanks for the words of encourgement. Looks like we should have our surgery at about the same time. I wish you all the best. I see that you are also a quilter. It's a small world isn't it?

Karen, I understand your frustration but it is not necessarily a bad thing to continue to lose weight prior to surgery. Your liver is most likely fatty and it lies over the stomach. They have to pull it aside for surgery. Losing weight will pose less danger to you.

Stitchy, thanks for that advice. I should probably make better use of this waiting time to do the same!

Your numbers are awesome! I hope I will be as successful with my journey. You are inspiring.

Karen, I am a dedicated quilter (dedicated - that means I spend more money on that art form than I should). I have done traditional quilts for years, and am experimenting with smaller art quilts. It's fun. Keeps me off the streets...

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
