Hi, My name is Tonya. I have never joined one of these sites but I thought I would give it a try. I had surgery June 14 2007. It was the best thing that I have ever done and has been very easy for me. I never have been sick and the weight keeps coming off with little exersice. I am very luck. I have lost 100 pounds already and am close to my goal... or what I am told is my goal as I never really set one. The only thing that has been a issue for me is my port. Mine is on my right side of my belly button and causes issues when I wear a belt and sit down or when sleep on my stomach. I have been told that I can get a low profile port if needed so Ithink that I will be heading in for that. I can lay on my back and see the lump from the port. Kinda weird if you ask me.

See, that's the kind of story that I want!!! Good for you! My port is to left and about 2 inches below my belly button.

Great Job Tonya, your story is the kind we need to see more of on these sites. I've only been banded since March but I am constantly saying, I want to learn to "live" with my band, not be consumed by it. I feel like a positive attitude really helps, and for me slow and steady and being able to eat with no bad side affects so far has been a real plus. I do workout, but I like it so thats all good. Keep up the great work and keep us up to date. My port is just below the center of my breast bone, so sleeping on my stomach has never been an issue. In the begining I did have to be carefull when I leaned into the washer or counter, but that seems to have worked itself out now.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
