Hello to all and God Bless! My user-name is "ready_2_live" and that describes this change I am anticipating perfectly!

I am a wife, mother of four, and a college junior - off for the summer though! I am so very new at this and don't even know if I qualify yet. (if insurance won't pay, there's no way I can!) This Thursday I go to a Lap Band Seminar and am very excited to learn more about it.

In a nutshell, I'll say that I have been trying since 2004 every way to lose weight. The most I have lost is 41 pounds, and within seemingly no time I gained 46 back. I fluctuate between about 15 lbs now, but am so miserable both physically and yes, I admit it is an emotional struggle as well.

My weight has accumulated on me in the worst places for heart disease - right around my stomach and hips. It's terrible. I have a lot of lower leg and knee pain, and well, I am just ready for change and hoping that I will qualify for the surgery!

I am SO anxious to go read other's stories, questions, answers, and any and everything else, so this is all I"ll share for now! Any other questions, please ask! God Bless and I'll be seeing you all around!

Congratulations on starting a wonderful journey to a healthy new you!!! Welcome to LBT. I would say going to that seminar was the best thing I ever did. Got the ball rolling, and it's taking time...but I am already becoming healthier even before I have the surgery toward the end of the year. I hope your journey is smooth and that it's stress-free. And again welcome. Hope to hear from you again!

Hi and welcome to LBT! Good luck getting approval. Does your insurance cover WLS? If so, have you seen a copy of their WLS policy? That would be the first step. Good luck and let us know how things are progressing!

Yes, it seems the worst of this whole journey is fighting with or trying to find out stuff from the insurance. Lol.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
