Just how long do scars actually heal??

Recommended Posts

I will be 6 months out on Monday. So basically, my scars are fully healed and old. The long one has been a bit of a purpleish color around the outside and lately it is becoming more pink and it is starting to itch. Doesn't that indicate healing and shouldn't that have been over with a LONG time ago???

Scars will keep "maturing" for up to a year or so... And my scars from a previous surgery when I was a teenager still itch when the weather changes...go figure..

I had my gall bladder out in January and the incisions are completely healed on the surface. They have gone through phases of being puffy to flat, but are looking better and better.

The incisions from my Non-Lap Band are mostly healed. 3 of the five look like nothing, but the other two still have a whitish center. Not white exactly, almost gray and haven't fully healed and the upper one near my solar plexus hurts sometimes when I bend. I'm hoping that this won't be worsened when I actually have the band.

As far as should you be done yet? I dunno. I think it would be different for everyone. I've been told that getting a large amount of Protein speeds up the healing process.(I've been having about 72 grams a day.)

And I've also been putting Vitamin e oil on the scars. It's supposed to help lessen the look of them, not sure if this is true, but it sure helped the falking skin aroud the incisions.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
