Dr. Garth Davis in Houston

Has anyone been banded by him?? Or currently in the process of being banded by him? I'm really frustrated right now! Yesterday I found out that my insurance will cover a large portion of the procedure as long as I do a 3 month supervised diet. So I was excited to find that out and called his office to ask a few questions and sign up for his seminar. Well the girl they transferred me to was so rude... and I was so frustrated with her that after I got off the phone I realized I didn't sign up for his seminar!!! Now I have to call her back!

Right now I'd almost rather self pay so I could to someone else... I can't stand rude people and I'm hoping she was just having a bad day and that she does not represent what the rest of his staff is like.

So what was your experience like with him??

I was banded by him on 3/7/08. You have to go through the Methodist Weight Management Program if your insurance is going to pay. The psych, nutrition, and diet all happens through them first. I didn't even see Dr. Davis until after I had "graduated" from the program and I was approved by insurance. So sign up for the seminar through the Methodist program. He is a good doctor and I haven't had problems with people being rude. Sorry you had a bad experience, but I think and hope it was a fluke. There is a website for the Methodist program and numbers to call there. Good luck, I would highly recommend him.

He does or did the TV show "Big Medicine" I love the show. I'm very impressed with their program. I wish I lived in Texas. Give it another try. Maybe she was just having a bad day. Good Luck!

I know someone who was going to him, and was not happy with the whole process, they had her go thru several months of liquid diet delaying her surgery, only then to tell her at begining of year they would no longer participate with her insurance, that was last straw for her. She found new Dr she loves, with in one week of seeing him, he had her approved and her surgery done, she is very happy now.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
