Hi Penni,

THis is such a tragedy. Jacob will need therapy and should get to someone as soon as possible to help him with his grief. My husbands best friends had a girlfriend in college that died in a car accident. Doug (the best friend) was devastated since they were to be married also. I know DOug very well and it took it many many years to get over the tragedy. As far as I know, he did not have another real relationship during his 20's for fear of intimacy and loss. Doug finally got married (at age 40) to a lovely woman named Christie. It is my belief that Doug remained single for so long because of his fear of loss. So sad when people die young.... I am really sorry for the loss.

Penni, I am so sorry for your loss. Your post hit home for me, in 1985 my 22yr old brother was killed in a car accident. He was the youngest of the family, it was 8 months prior to my wedding. I will say a prayer for everyone involved that they find the strength the need.

Thank you so much for all your kind words. I have spoken to Jeremy (son in law) and he says Jacob, his brother, is walking around in a daze carrying the Teddy Bear he gave to Amber, his girlfriend that died, the day she left for college. Amber's mother is breaking down then being normal. Amber was an only child.

I have suggested the counselor to Jeremy for Jacob and he said he would pass along the suggestion. My daughter, Erin, is coping as well. She calls me to talk about it and we work through it. Jeremy talks to me as well. I think they will be fine and get through this. The person I am concerned about is Jacob. He typically is a quiet and withdrawn person and Jeremy says he is very animated now. He is not coping well in my opinion. SIGH!!

I told Jeremy that if his brother wants to talk to someone outside of the family just to listen then I would be happy to do that. If he isn't comfortable talking to me then he needs to talk to someone. So we will see.

Keep them in your prayers or thoughts or whatever. LOL!!

HUGS

UPDATE: Funeral was yesterday. I called my daughter to check up on all of them. Jacob was there and he was laughing in the background. Erin, my daughter, said he was doing OK. He would be fine one minute then he would be bawling his eyes out the next. But for the most part he seems to be doing OK. He buried the stuffed animal with Amber. I think that was so sweet.

After all the services were done and everyone went their separate ways, Erin suggested they all return to the gravesite and have a special private moment their with her friends and Jacob. I think that was the smartest thing they could have done. Erin said Jacob was much better after they did that. He was more calm and seemed to accept it more. I have a smart daughter.

She is adjusting as well to the loss. Her voice sounds brighter and better. I get a sense of acceptance when I talk with her now that wasn't there before.

Thank you all again for the expressions of sympathy and concern.

HUGS to you all.

Penni I hope everyone continues to cope with this and be able to move on and be okay. It will just take time and they will never forget but it will get easier. You are doing the right thing by just being there for all of them and your suport means alot in a time like this it is nice to know someone cares. You are all still in my thoughts and prayers!!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
