I have no problem with sushi, but I admit I haven't tried the seaweed rolls yet ... I've heard some stories, and afraid to risk, so i'm sticking with the sashimi and Nigiri sushie varieties.

gosh, i find this so surprising. I was led to believe sushi was a thing of the past. I was banded 4/30 but just finishing 3 weeks of liquid and having a hard time switching back to food. Can't imagine sushi right now. Bought some for my husband today and he wouldn't eat it in front of me because he thought I'd be too upset. That's sweet but crazy. My stomach is not a happy place right now. Do you think sushi would be good or bad?

I think Sushi is a great, convenient option longer term - I don't think you should try it just yet (my personal opinion). The salmon and tuna would be ok, but the rice might be best after 5 weeks or so.

I just got banded on May 19th and Sushi is the one thing I can't wait to eat! I have forbidden my husband to eat sushi until I can at least have a few pieces -- mean I know but that's the only thing I've told him no to infront of me.

YEAH FOR SUSHI!!!!! :):thumbup::blink::thumbup:

I've been buying my husband sushi......the first 3 weeks I was on liquid and not hungry so I didn't care. Now, I'm on mushies and hungrier so you're right- I wouldn't buy it for him so fast. I have to find a sushi place that makes it with brown rice on request. My fav place used to do so, but stopped recently. Hope I can eat rice. A lot of people seem to have issues with seaweed.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
