Can I have 1 meal of soup during Protein shakes Pre-Op?

Recommended Posts

Sorry the title is kind of confusing.

I finally got my surgery date, May 12th, Yay. My doctor wants me to start Protein Shakes Pre-Op diet tomorrow (May 1st). I was suppose to go on a luncheon with my co-workers on May 5th. I was wondering would it be okay for me just to eat tortilla Soup? Just the broth, no meat.

If not, I would still go and probably just have Iced-tea

thank you~!

I would say yes... that is fine, but remember I am not your doc!

The pre op diet is there to reduce the size of your liver so that he can get in there and place the band.......... Don't fret... its not like you are planning to have a funnel cake!

Thank you so much ladies~!!

It's true that it's just one tortilla Soup. But like lovekatz said... it's not worth screwing up the surgery.

If I can't even do a 2 weeks pre-ops, then how am I going to commit to this life-changing surgery...

I know that I'm "here" needing the surgery because I have made numerous excuses to eat. I guess I was just hoping that I would make one more excuse before I really have to give it up (for a while).

Just to avoid the temptations, I think I will tell my co-workers that I will not be able to make it to the luncheon. I think that's the best!

Really, Thank you so much, that was like a reality check for me!

*that's why I love my bandster family~!!!*

Trust me, the worst part of this whole lap banding thing is the 2 week pre-op diet. I got through it, along with many other people. So it's not impossible. Heck, I even managed to lose 22 pounds on my pre-op diet!

It does get better, I promise!

Hi everyone,

I'm starting my 3rd day Diet... I already lost 5 lbs this week (3.5 lbs before the diet). I spoke to my nurse, she said that I can do broth, just no meat, no veggies. Jello is okay. But no pudding....

Thanks for all your comments/advice~!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
