How much time off??

Recommended Posts

I'm 43. I was banded on the Wed June 4th, and since I'm in pretty good shape and have a really high pain tolerance, I thought I'd be up and running by now, but I'm not. I'm still having a lot of gas and shoulder pain, and am having trouble just getting in enough liquids.

Luckily, I work for myself, so I'm taking an extra week off, and my DH is planning to work from home next week to cover all the Mom's Taxi stuff my DD14 needs since I can't drive until I'm off the Lortab.

I think I'd advise people to schedule two weeks, if you need less, bonus, if you need more, hopfully your job is flexible. I just know 4 days definitely wasn't enough for me and that surprised me.

Always ;-)

Its interesting to see how much time everyone took off and why. Everyone and their needs are different so I think when having surgery you have to judge for yourself. I took three days, have a desk job but supervised several people and on my feet alot which was good for me. If I just sat there it would have been worse I think. But I was up and moving quickly and did not have any major problems. sore from the hernia surgery more than the band I think. They did some esophagus repair at the same time and that was more of the irritant.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
