I just got my surgery date!!

Recommended Posts

Here are a few questions......any answers?

1) How long before you feel ok?

2) What do they give for pain?

3) Does insurance pay for the skin removel later?

4) How long before you can return to work?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

p.s. Does anyone chat in the chat room here?

My Answers would be:

#1 usually the first couple days after surgery is the worst.... each day gets better and better! I was really sore for several days but it really wasn't bad pain just really alot of sorness! Everyone is different and surgery effects them differently!

#2 My Dr. gave me liquid Lortab.

#3 I think that it depends on your Ins. Co. and there stipulations on Plastic surgery. Some Ins. co. will require it to be a medical necesity to get it paid for with Ins. ( rashes and other skin irritations under your stomach panel could be a good example of a medical condition that the extra skin is causing!) Showing this medical necessity might get a Tummy Tuck covered by ins.

#4 Everyone heals at a different pace. I feel most people are okay to go back to work in just a few days depending on what type of job you do it could take a week or two to feel fully recovered. ( the first 2 or 3 days after surgery are the worst and you get better really quick after that.)You don't need to push your self to soon. taking a few extra days off work will help you rest up and heal quickier. Also remember it will be very hard going back to work while on liquids because everyone will be eating around you and that will make this phase harder to get through .( I stand on my feet alot and I took of 1 week and that was a good recovery period for me)

Hope some of this helps answer your questions. Good luck with getting your band and remember we are always here to help. Jamie

Hey Jorget,

I felt pertty good within a few days. I was very tired, but not really in much pain.

I had the liquid Lortab as well.

Some insurance companies do, some don't. Again, it depends on how much extra skin you have, and your insurance company. You might need to show medical necessity (gawd I wish I could spell), like Jamie said.

I'm a full time student, and I was back to class the following week.

There are plenty of chatters, usually someone will post to one of the "Chat Anyone?" threads to let others know that people are chatting.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
