2 week check up...Calories Question

Recommended Posts

I was banded on the 14th and I had my 2 week appointment today, they removed the bandages. The port bandage they left partially closed, still kinda tender there. I lost 16 poinds in 2 weeks, pre-op I lost 14 pounds, altogether 30lbs. I feel great, I can only eat or drink about 1 cup of food every 4-5 hours. No fill until another month. I eat or consume about 500- 700 calories, my Doc said that is where he wants me, unitil Iget the weight off. I thought I should at least eat 1000 calories, it is not healthy to me that low. How many calories is considered normal with the band? I am going to stick to what the doc said, but just for future reference.

Your calorie intact is terrifically low, which slows down your metabolism even more. I eat about 1200 calories a day. But I am not trying to take off a ton of weight too soon, as they always presents another set of problems. However, having said all this - your weight and health may be much different than mine and your doctor is the only one who really should advise you. Hopefully, he suggested good Vitamins and Calcium etc.

Good luck to you,

Helen

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
