Do "sweet eaters" have a harder time on the band?

Recommended Posts

Do you think that people that crave sweets have a harder time getting the band to work because they're easier to eat no matter how restricted you are?

I know there are people that prefer certain foods to others or have weaknesses for certain foods. During hormonal times of the month I crave sugar and when I'm sleep deprived I do also. Any thoughts out there?

brandy II, who is trying to Weight Watchers and they have sweets 2 points and under and hopefully that won't screw me up!!!!!!!:tt2:

I'll admit, I'm a sugar addict, At times it can be hard! But, instead of eating the entire bag of Cookies pre-band, I can only eat a few. You do have to make your mind up and make better choices with the band.

My cousin had gastric Bypass in Nov of 2006 and now she no longer has the dumpting syndrom and can eat sweets. So the the dumping syndrom with bypass is temporary for most people. Some have it always, but from what I read, your body gets used to it and you then don't have it.

Ether surgery is not a quick fix, you do have to make better choices no matter which one you choose, but they will be a tool to help you.

The answer to your question is yes. For RNY patients, they can't eat sweets due to dumping. For a bandster, many sweets go down juuuust fine.

This was TOTALLY an issue my surgeon pointed out before I had the band put in. It's something that has to be addressed.

For me, I need to make sure I get enough Protein. I tend to crave less sweets if I get enough Protein. It's not a failsafe, however. I do still have sweets.

In all things, moderation. It is possible to work sweets into your eating plan and still lose weight.

I just don't know. Is what I experienced worse than those who ate meat and veggies or fried foods?

Like you, pasteries were my favorite foods...honey Buns, muffins, chocolate cakes by little debbie, etc.

For me, I was able to still eat those but only 1 bite. It took discipline to eat one bite and give the rest to my kids...but I did it.

Now, I have a box of little debbies in the kitchen and I have only had one out of it. Preband I would have eaten the entire box in a day.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
