I've messed up big time, will I still have surgery

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is Wed, Apr 23rd. I went to my last pre-op appt to see my surgeon on the 16th and he was really happy with my weight loss of 24 lbs. I have worked so damn hard to lose that.

Well, since the 16th, I went to a birthday party (Fri nite), a wedding (Sat)and my hubby took me to my last dinner tonite (Sun). I just weighed myself and gained 10 lbs back!!!! I'm so upset and angry at myself that I will show up to the hospital Wed the 24th and the Dr will refuse to do the surgery. Has anyone been refused the day of their surgery for this reason?

I'm doing nothing but Clear Liquids Mon and Tues, so wish me luck and a few prayers wouldn't hurt....

Yvonne,

I personally have never been weighed prior to being taken back for surgery. However, you could always start a liquid diet between now and surgery and probably drop the 10 you have gained.. Just a thought! Good luck to you!

My dr told me that as long as I showed an attempt to lose the % I was told to lose, he would be fine with that. I don't know when they weighed me, but it definitely wasn't when I was coherent.

Hang in there, Yvonne! I will pray for you tonight that the Lord will help you, strengthen and comfort you as you approach surgery. I'm sure you will be able to get back on track.

God bless you,

The Doctors don't expect you to loose that amount of weight on your own and keep it off most of the time. I mean, seriously if you could you wouldn't need them or the surgery! And weight can be Water, and other things. It can fall off as fast as it got there.

I wasn't weighed the day of surgery, but every Dr is different. I wouldn't go in confessing any sins, if they weigh you then explain. Otherwise don't say anything.

I honestly think if they have an OR booked, they won't take you off for 10 pounds, again this is WLS, not brain surgery. Good luck and keep us updated!

Good for you for doing liquids for the next two days!!

You will do fine, the weight you gained is probably just Water weight since it is so much in so little time. Two days of liquids should get most of that off of you. Drink, drink, drink Water all the time. I sometimes have edema (swelling of the feet) and my doctor staid drinking fluids is the best way to get rid of water weight.

Good luck and relax!!

Keep on the liquids for the two days and drink lots of Water. I bet you will be fine. Don't stress too much over it. Good luck to you. I will be thinking of you. Let us know how things turn out.

I was not weighed the morning of surgery. They took my pre-op testing weight as the last documented weight. I was a little nervous about it too, but I didn't have to get near a scale.< /p>

Just hang in there and you'll do fine. Though I would say that keeping to the liquid diet would be better for you during the surgery. My doc here in FL requires two weeks pre-op of Optifast (800 cals per day!) to shrink the liver to make the surgery safer. Also, to see if you'll be compliant with the liquids. I get my surgery on May 9th, so I start the Optifast on Thursday - you'll be 1 day post-band by then. Best of luck! I've said a little prayer for you!:biggrin2:

I think you are doing great going on the liquids for the next two day - I doubt that those 10 lbs are and accurate number - that would mean you ate 35,000 in 3 days - it's mostly Water IMHO.

I wasn't weighed either prior to surgery - I wouldn't say anything either:tongue:

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
