Hello All -

I am super excited to get banded on April 29th. (scared as well).

Here is what I need your help with. I have a weddiing on Mother's Day, which is May 11th. At that time I will still be on Phase I which is Clear liquids. Now I how can I go to this darn wedding??? The problem is I really have to though..... No eating, no drinking alcoholic beverages & I still might be soar so I am not going to be cutting up the dance floor like I normally would. What can I say though?? I have no intentions of telling any of these people at this point in time. I hate putting myself in this type of position, but my health and my life come first.

Should I tell a white lie ??? Not go???

This is a big fancy sit down wedding.

HELP!!!

Just tell people you had surgery a few days ago, and didn't want to event hink about missing the wedding, but you have a graduated diet and can't eat the food just yet. No need to specify the surgery type, and if anyone wants to probe for more info, just ask them, "Why do you ask?" or tell them it's personal.

If you don't want to mention any surgery, just tell them you were sick earlier that day and scared to eat much of anything, but will maybe try some crackers later that night.

Why no drinking? Sip on Water or juices (if kids are coming, I'd think there will be juices there).

I agree with Wheetsin. I doubt if ppl will notice much anyway. Is it a sit down meal with place cards? That might be harder. If it is a buffet it would be easy to tell everyone you ate already. Or you could always say you tummy is a little upset.

My first thought was the "not feeling so good" excuse and accompany it with the laying of a gentle hand on your stomach. People will so NOT ask for further details. And it won't be too far off. You may not BE feeling so good and it WILL be in that area. You just don't have to get specific. Let people think what they will. And who cares!?!

Go to the wedding, be careful, sip some Water or broth if they have Soup as part of the meal, and sit and enjoy people watching. (It will also give you a good reason for ducking out early if you find you need to.)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
