Not yet feeling great

Recommended Posts

I was banded on March 25. Immediatly after surgery I experienced nausea and vomiting due to the band being too tight, even without a fill. A week later, on April 2, my doctor went back in to trim the fat pad and give me a bit more room. Since the 2nd surgery, I have not had nausea or vomiting, but it is taking me a lot longer to bounce back. I am able to get in plenty of liquids, but I have a hard time with eating. I know everyone is different, but it seems that most people who were banded close to me are already feeling great and regaining their appetite. I guess I just want some reassurance that there are varying degrees to normal and that I won't always feel like this. I am very much looking forward to being "normal" and eating normal foods, just in small portions, and not struggling to take in some yogurt! Please share your wisdom!

I feel your frustrations. But I figure that I've decided to make this enormous change in my life and part of it entails this month of less then ideal food consumption. I'm shooting for May 2nd (four week mark) to have lost a tremendous amount of weight to really jump start my journey to being "normal-sized." Hang in there and know that great changes await ya.

I wouldn't worry so much about not being able to eat as long as you are taking in plenty of liquids. Most people have had to be on a liquid diet for as much as 3-4 weeks and you are only about 3 weeks now (?). Considering some of the other threads I have read about people wanting to eat the "house" after surgery and before the fill, I would consider myself lucky not to have an appetite! :huh2: However, if it really concerns you, I would certainly contact my MD and see what his take on it is. I'm sure you'll be good as new, probably better, real SOON! :biggrin2:

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
