Are there things I could NEVER eat again w/ the band?

Recommended Posts

This is my 1st time on the forum and my 2nd post.

My desire is "too be normal".

I don't want to be a super model. I don't even want to turn heads. I just want to be a healthy person at a healthy weight.

I want to be satisfied w/ less food.< /p>

I want to feel good.

But I love food.

Are there going to be things I can NEVER eat again for the rest of my life?

Hi

I guess it depends on what you are eating now!

How big your mouthfuls are and what your portion sizes are are going to have to change.

But, if you can eat it in a tiny mouthful at a time there doesn't seem anything you can't eat, but you have to realise that you won;t be able to eat a normal plate serving again, you will leave at least half of a normal serve on your plate and if you forget to eat in tiny portions you may be bringing it all up again because the band is so uncomfortable.

Look, it takes forever to learn not to munch away and take a big bite - not to keep pace with friends and their eating pace and to make wise food choices. Ice cream, chips, wine etc etc will always fit, chocolate will always fit, a good mouthful of a sandwich or burger will go down but you may regret it immediately when you feel uncomfortable.

In a way it is " All things in moderation" once the band has been adjusted to restrict the stomach.

Good luck

Cleo:smile:

Great advice.

I can eat anything. Some things are more apt to cause problems than others and require more care but overall, things coming back up again is a very rare occurence for me.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
