I will be banded on April 30th!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and have so many questions. This seems to be a great place to ask questions and get support. I must admit I have mixed emotions when reading the posts. Some are so encouraging that I can hardly wait to get banded and others frankly scare me.

I wonder if this will finally really work for me after over 30 years of dieting with no permanent success.

My question is...Can you feel the band? How do most people feel after surgery? How soon will I be able to resume normal activities? What is the biggest challenge to being banded?

Thanks for your help!

Beth

I was just banded on 3/25. I feel great although I had discomfort due to gas the first week. I cannot feel the band at all. I can feel the port sometimes but I think that is because I am still healing.

Hi Beth! I am still pre-op, so really can't answer any of your questions, but wanted to say Hi and welcome you to LBT! What I can say is this: All of us here have some sort of issue with food, otherwise, we wouldn't even be considering WLS. If you aren't ready to deal with those issues, no weight loss program will be successful. The band is only a tool to help with weight loss. The work is still up to you. Yes, the thought of failing yet again is scary. As I move along through my own pre-op process, I am dealing with that fear too. But I know how terribly bad I want to be healthy, and as someone on these boards has said, "Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels". Knowing how true that statement is is my ultimate goal. Good luck to you and be sure to keep us posted on your progress!

Congratulations!! I was banded on April 3rd and feel great today. The biggest discomfort that I experienced was gas. It seems to be subsiding now and walking helps a lot. I have more energy and am starting to lose weight. I am so happy that I got banded. This board has a lot of infomation on it and the people are wonderful. Good Luck to you!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
