Hello all, I have been reading on this site for about a month but this is my first time speaking up. My name is Greg and I am from Staten Island, NY: I have had my Overview Class, Psych Eval, Surgeon Meet and have my meeting with the Nutritionist on 4/16; at that point they will submit for my insurance approval. I am 49 and am apprehensive but excited about the prospects for the future. This site is a great support mechanism and I look forward to participating more. My goal is to enter my 50's moving in the right direction

I am back on this morning and not as tired as last night: I have not been assigned a surgeon yet but am having the Lap Band procedure done at Staten Island University Hospital in their Center for the Surgical Treatment of Obesity. I weigh 335 Lbs and want to loose 140; that seems like a huge mountain to climb but it is great seeing the support you all supply each other and the success I see in your efforts. After struggling with weight my whole life and trying every diet out there I think I am finally prepared (between my ears) for the Lap Band. My Cardiologist first suggested this to me about a year ago and I am now committed to moving forward.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
