I am about a week post op and let me tell you, this liquid diet is killing me. I know why you need to be on liquids for 2 weeks post op and then move to mushies, I get it. I am an intelligent adult. But why does it vary from doctor to doctor? Has anyone cheated and lived to tell?

And by cheat, I mean move to the mushies phase while on the liquid phase etc.?

My doc moved me to mushies after 1 week, and I've lived to tell. But I really stuck with actual mushies -- no sneaking in something like chicken that requires significant chewing. Mashed potatoes and yogurt and the like.

Still, it's best to follow your own doc's orders. You can do anything for 2 weeks, if you know that it's over with after that.

Are you enjoying a wide variety of liquids or getting bored because you're only drinking Protein shakes? You can do anything that goes through a straw, unless your doc has told you otherwise.

I've basically stuck to my diet. My doctors doesn't require Clear Liquids so I have had Tomato Soup and cream of mushroom Soup thinned with vegetable broth. I had to strain the cream of mushroom to remove all the pieces. The one time I did cheat was when I cooked green Beans for my daughter - I'm vegetable freak. They were very soft so I chewed up five and sput out the pulp. then I chewed and swallowed two. Then I put two more in my mouth and realized that they were stringy as I began to chew. I spit those out and realized it wasn't worth the cheat. I am one week and three days post op (if you count my day of surgery - 11 am- as day one). Call your nutrionist and ask if you can have creamy Soups thinned with broth or Jell-O. Or maybe he/she will move you up to really thinned mushies. Good luck to you.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
