Help...I have a cold pre-op...

Recommended Posts

I hoping someone knows if it is okay to take Tylenol Cold, Halls and possibly a antibiotic pre-op? I just started my liquid diet and I am 2 wks pre-op.

Has anyone been rescheduled because of a cold?

Thanks for the help!

Hi Joy - I think we are in the same boat. I have a little over a week. I am hoping when I go to Pre-Op on Tuesday that they don't reschedule me. I hope you get to feeling better. :-)

I am scheduled for surgery tomorrow and I have been taking over the counter medicine without aspirin in it and I sound worse than I feel. I was told that the anesthesiologist tomorrow will tell me if I have to reschedule because of the cold I have. Good luck!!

Good Luck on your Surgery tomorrow. I pray you don't get rescheduled....I know how sucky that would be.

Did you ask your surgeon or nurse if you could take OTC drugs for your cold?

Your best bet is to call your surgeon's office and let them know what's going on, and ask THEM your questions. I can't remember who it was, but someone on these boards said that their surgery was postponed due to her having a cold on the day of surgery. So, CALL THEM ASAP!

I had a cold the day of my surgery 3/24 they did not reschedule but I did have some breathing difficulty during my surgery. the anesthesiologist said I had bronchial spasms. I had to have some breathing treatments post op. And Also it hurt like hell to cough and sneeze.

That hurts to even think about. Having a cold right after surgery.....I sneezed the day after surgery, and HOLY COW. Good times.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
