I am from Lancaster, A small town about 45 minutes from Dubuque Iowa. Are you nervous yet? I have 3 kids 12, 11 and 7 but they dont know what I am going to Colorado for. Do you have any kids? Are you on a pre-op diet? I am, sort of like the Atkins one, but I have limited amounts I can eat, and no food with any form of sugar. So needless to say, I will be taking several hours at Wal-mart this weekend trying to find some food that I will be able to eat! I will be starting it on the 9th....OH My One week from today! Its kinda of going by fast, but sometimes seems soooo slow!! I quit smoking on Friday March 21st though, So Its been a little tough!

My surgery is 4/23! I am having mine done at the Bariatric center of excellence in Eugene, Oregon with Dr. Umbach.

At this time I do not have a pre op diet. I was told by the surgeon if I lose 5-10 pounds that I wont have to do a liquid diet. I am still dieting even tho I went over that and hope to lose a couple more before my preop appt on 4/17.

Hmm, I might be the only one of us having to do the 10 days of liquids? ? I'm so ready that I just feel like "BRING IT ON!!" We'll see how I feel on Sunday, lol!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
