One week out-Feeling much better!

Recommended Posts

What a difference a week makes!! I had the lap band procedure on March 19th, and on the 20th I had some doubts on why I did it. I was sore, my stomache was bloated- I felt 9 months pregnant and ready to blow- and I was so tired. I literaly woke up today, one week out, and feel better than ever. I have been loosing weight, something I have not been able to by myself. I seem to have a new outlook on life, maybe this is all because I was able to have mashed potatoes last night instead of straight liquids. I just hope that anyone on the edge of deciding to get the lap band procedure just takes the plunge and does it. I have two young kids and was guillty about the cost, what if something happened to me, etc. My chances of living a full and productive life has just gone up, and that means more time with my children. I just signed up for a Walk for Cancer, for the end of the summer, something I never would have done just a week ago. I am so glad I did this, my life is changing daily!!!

I love reading your post. I am so happy that you just went ahead and did it. I am going for my seminar on April 7, and from there I guess I will make my final decision on who my surgeon will be. Your post gave me hope. Thank you!

Glad you are feeling better and hope to be in your position. I'm just starting after reading Khalil Ali's Fighting Weight about her journey to lap band surgery. I face appealing to my insurance company because of course my employer doesn't have gastric surgery in our policy. I just thought I would say congrats on taking the step and feeling better !

I was banded on 3-24-08 - I will be glad when I get to that point. I am sore, tired, and very sick of liquids. It is getting a little better though each day (easier to walk around, easier to turn over in the bed, etc.)

BUT I am still so thankful that I did this. I weighed yesterday and have lost about 14 lbs since I started the two-week pre-op. I would have never been able to do that without my "tool". In fact, I probably would have added some extra weight at the speed I was going.

Glad you are doing great - hang in there - we will beat this!!

I am so glad I read this thread, my surgery is 4/2 and I have been feeling all those feelings you described. This makes me more confident in my decision.:tongue_smilie:

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
