PCOSers: How did you lose Pre-Op Weight?

Recommended Posts

Hi fellow PCOSers!

As we all know, it is sooo hard to lose the weight with PCOS, so how did you all lose the 10-15 pre-op pounds? I am having such a hard time. I am doing WW, staying on points and my weight is down 1 pound one week, up 1 pound the next. So far (in one month) I am actually up higher than when I started!

I am doing great eating veggies and healthy choices. Am exercising some, but could be better in that department. Have been having slim fast and a piece of fruit for Breakfast. Am pretty careful about measuring portions.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Hey bookaddict! My doc uses the Sugar Busters Diet for his patients. I actually really liked the diet and I think I lost about 14 lbs on it. Sugar busters is kind of low carb but not strict low carb. For bread and Pasta, I had to use whole wheat products, but it didn't bother me. I ate lean meats, non-starchy vegetables, and some fruits and a little whole wheat bread. It really wasn't too bad. Good luck to you and hope everything works out!

Thanks so much, Georgia Girl. It sounds very similar to how I was eating until I tried Slim Fast this week. Neither one is doing anything. Actually I went up a few pounds. What am I doing wrong?

My surgeon puts everyone on Medifast and I have been on it for a little over a week with a few minor bumps in the road and have already lost 13 lbs with about 10 to go before surgery on 4/28. It is a pain because it is so limiting but it will be worth it. I am a salt addict so I do find myself craving the salt but otherwise I am not hungry so I guess that is a plus.

As you lose the PCOS should improve, or at least that is what I am told. My goal is to regain my fertility.

When is your surgery date?

Is it 10 to 15 pounds you need to lose or 10% of what you weigh??

Didn't your surgeons office give you an eating plan to drop the weight before your surgery??

Two weeks before my surgery I was put on a total liquid diet. I had to order the Protein powder to make the shakes from a web-site.

They have you loss this weight prior to surgery for 2 reasons

First is because when you are lying down, as you will be for surgery, your liver rests on the very top of your stomach. This is were the band is placed and the Dr. has to move the liver out of his way so he can put the band on. Being on the diet/liquid diet 2 weeks prior to surgery will shrink your liver.

And second, 99.9% of us will have a "last" huge meal, and if we were not told to loss some weight before our surgery we would be eating something while being wheeled into the operating room!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
