Banded and home...question

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Thursday 2/28 and came home from the hospital yesterday. I lost 15 lbs pre-op from the liquid diet. I'm not feeling hungry, but drinking because I know I have to. I'm a little sore, but overall, not feeling too bad.

So here is my question. One of my incisions, toward the middle of my abdomen, but not the port site, is puffier than the rest. The doctor said he doesn't think it could be infected since I was on antiobiotics up until I left the hospital yesterday. He also said there is nothing under it that could be bulging or anything. Anybody else experience this? I don't have visible staples or stitches. He said he did a plastic surgery type closure, which I'm not sure what that means. This incision is the sorest of them all, but feeling considerably better than yesterday.

Thanks for any input. I'm so glad to finally be over on the losers side now. :w00t:

Hi:

If the swollen site is warm to the touch, or starts to get rid, or if you start to run a fever it could be infected. If it's feeling better than yesterday it's probably healing.

I hope you feel all better soon. Remember, you just had surgery, so take it easy.

Sue

Mine was a little swollen too! But now I am three weeks out and although that spot is still a little bit bigger than the rest, which have gone down, and I no longer have any pain there. I agree with Sue, hot or red, call your doc. Otherwise, it will probably get better in a couple days!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
