Newbie in Ireland

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Ive been investigating lapbanding for a good few months now and I have my first consultation with Dr Chris DeBruyne in Dublin on April 3. I'm 5'10 and 244 lbs which makes my BMI around 35. I've battled with my weight most of my teenage and adult life and I think that lapbanding will be the tool that will finally let me be successful in managing it.

Not sure how many Irish people use this site, I'm actually Australian but have lived here 5 years now. Hi to you all, I'm sure Ill have a bunch of questions as I go on.

Look forward to getting to know you all better

Simone

Welcome to LBT Simone. There is quite a few Irish people on here. There is a whole called called "Hi from Ireland". Actually if you go back out to the new posts and look up a few you will see it. Your welcome to come join us. I met Chris DeBruyne when he was in Dublin a couple of weeks ago and will be having the op on March 4th.

So youve set a date? I'm so pleased for you. I'm certainly a much happier person since I got banded. I had around 3.5 stone or so to lose ( depending on how I define my target weight) but it was and is and always has been a major issue for me. I'm just reaching the stage now where I can buy nice clothes and I must say its enjoyable.

I hope the op goes really well for you.

All the best

Ellen

Thanks Ellen.

Yeah, its all set. I just decided to stay another day in Brussels after my conversation with the GP. I'm getting nervous now but looking forward to it at the same time. I have struggled with this all my life and I can now see some light of the end of the tunnel.

Congrats on your success so far.

Elsie

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
