Pasta, bread, beans, eggs, beef - I can eat it all

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 1/10/08 but have not yet had a fill. This past week, I went on a business trip to a very small town where I had to do a lot of improvising with what I ate.

While I tried to "be good," to my surprise, I was able to eat small quantities (at different meals) of eggs, bread, Pasta, beef, and Beans - foods that most banders can't tolerate. Did I eat these foods to cheat? No, I ate them as small parts of meals because that was all that was available, so please don't skewer me because of it. Of course, I did bring Protein Bars, but that wasn't enough.

I'm guessing that after my first fill, these type of foods will not go down - am I right?

You have no restriction yet there fore there is nothing to "stop" those things , nothing restricting them . Those are common foods that give bandsters problems and you may still be able to eat them after your first fill. I could eat them up until after my 2nd fill. Some people even with restriction can still eat them .

I can not eat bread, pizza i can do with very thin crispy crust but not every day some days i cant eat it, beef same as pizza but it has to be a good cut of meat and very tender and moist, Beans i dont have an isse with , Pasta is a no no .

Hey Pizzaman,

I don't have any problems with ANY of the foods you mentioned. Now I will say that I personally don't eat beef and when I had a deer roast, I had to eat slowly and deliberately--likewise with bread (and pizza, man!).

Of the four, I do avoid beef, Pasta, and bread, not because of issues, because of dislike and carbs.

I'm very careful, also, with "stringy" foods like pineapple and oranges. Luckily I was given a list by my Bariatric Center of foods "generally not tolerated well".

Once you get restriction, (just finally got restriction on my third fill) you will find you have to be even more careful and deliberate.

Welcome to our world, bud!! :)

Pizzaman

I have restriction - think I am at my sweetspot and I can eat mostly anything I want as long as I chew and eat slowly - I really haven't tried eating a sandwich - but mostly I think I would get too full too fast on the bread and wouldn't get my Protein 1st requirement.

Everyone is diff with their bands - I can eat chicken you can't - So don't take what you read on these boards as gospel - Everyone is diff..

Like you said - take it slow and becareful - PBing and slime aren't fun

(usually happends to me if i eat too fast - or take one bite too many)

What you can eat might change later, but not necessarily after your FIRST fill. I've had four fills and still can eat most foods, but I don't have good restriction yet. When we both get to our first level of restriction, then we'll have a better idea of what goes down and what doesn't.

It will also depend on how tight we each feel we need to be. I'd prefer to be a LITTLE loser and not so tight that almost everything comes back up.

I have yet to try certain foods, like pizza since being banded and I rarely eat bread. If I do eat bread, it's a small piece of crust or a piece of whole wheat toasted. don't need/want the carbs.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
