2 weeks without Protein

Recommended Posts

Hi there --

I am scheduled for surgery on 2/1. I am on clear liquid pre op diet (broth, Jello, popsicles, etc.) without any Protein, and expect to be on the same diet post surgery, so far it has been 5 days and I have 10 days ahead of me. I feel really weak and exhausted. Has anyone else faced this? I am hoping it is like other things where once you hit a wall and move on it gets better ... wishful thinking, I suppose. Thanks.

Cynthia

Are you sure you can't have protien? I think you should re-check with your Dr. If you do have to stay on clear liq, you should diffinetly get some clear Isopure.< /p>

Did your doc specify no added Protein powders - unjury unflavor is clear when added to liquids like broth...

I think you need to call your doctor - this doesn't make sense to me - I was only on Clear Liquids the day before surgery and day of surgery - then full liquids post op for 10 days - but each doc is diff.

Did your Dr. give you a printed sheet with the pre-op and post op diets you should follow? If yes, please re-read it.

broth will give you some Protein, but the Isopure CLEAR drink as mentioned above would help for both pre-op and post op. Please ask your Dr. or nutritionist.

I wish it was a mistake, it says very clearly no Protein, no dairy, in big letters at the bottom. I think I will suffer through this week, and ask if I can "break" the rules post op, just so my body has something to help it heal!

I would certainly call and tell your doctor how weak you feel. I am 5 days out and am on Clear Liquids and 3 Protein Shakes a day. That actually only gives me under 400 calories a day which is giving me dizzy spells. You are having probably under 100 calories a day which is crazy; please call your doctor. I agree with shortgal that maybe he was speaking of actual meat etc. I'm not sure how long a body can go without any Protein at all but it sounds very strange.

I'm about four days out and supposed to add yogurt drinks tomorrow, and boy am I looking forward to that!

But regarding Protein, ask your MD, but I have heard that it's the meat you wanna stay away from. Tough on the stomach in its recovering state.

When I get to next week and Protein shakes are ok, I'm going to get me some Egg Drop Soup for Protein too. Someone on the forum mentioned it, and I really liked that suggestion. Just gotta stay away from the crispy friend wontons!

Best of luck to you!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
