Making A Safe Home

Recommended Posts

Hi, well I am starting to clean out the cupboards. I got 2 out of 4 food cupboards cleaned out and part of the pantry. I am just afraid to go grocery shopping. I have 31 days until surgery. We have four children so I know that there will be a few goodies around, but usually they eat better than my dh and I. Fortunately they love fruit, and meat. It veggies that they complain about. If anyone has any practical, kid friendly recipies send them my way please!!!! Oh, and my dh had a consult with my dr. on Thursday, he'll probably be banded in July/Aug., so I think our house will be a happy and healthly place to be! Its going to be so hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

Jerry Seinfelds wife wrote a book about incorporating veggies into almost ALL of the food you eat..."under cover".

She uses veggie puree s and adds them.

Apparently, you caanot taste them and the kids are getting veggies they need.

Deceptively Delicious - Get Your Kids Eating Good Food!

There is some controversy surrounding the book. There is another author out at the same time who has the same ideas. In any case, the idea is great.

You'll likely have a new blender or magic bullet around anyhow...to make mushies....

I was absolutely shocked by the amount of high carb food we had in our house. We literally got rid of 3/4 of the food we had on hand and gave it to my best friend and her two kids. I am having to maintain a high protein/low carb diet and I knew that having the stuff around the house would be way too tempting and difficult to handle mentally so I got it out of the house. My husband is a Type II diabetic so it can only help him and my 15 year old daughter is 5'9 and 205 lbs so she could use to drop some lbs as well. The only advice I would have is be VERY careful with the fruit. Berries are the best as far as carbs go. Bananas are terrible!!!! Apples and pears aren't good either. Use a site like fitday.com or some other food journaling site (there are tons) and keep track of your daily food intake on there. It really helps.

Good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
