Recommended Posts

I have no idea what size band that I have....I guess I need to call my surgeon to find out huh? Can someone explain the difference in the sizes? I've read so many different sizes and not sure what the purpose is and what it all means......

my starting weight was 229. does weight matter?

thanks a bunch!

The different sizes are for different types and ages of bands. Just as we all do not wear the same size of jeans, our internal structure does not wear the same size of band.

Check out the FAQ and References section for a thread about Technical LapBand reference. The info there is a bit old, but still will address your question about the different sizes.

There's really no reason you have to know the size until you start getting fills. The size doesn't necessarily have anything to do with your initial weight. It has more to do with your anatomy and how much fat surrounds the stomach.

When you get your first fill, you'll probably find out the size of your band and how much saline is in it after the fill. For example, mine had 1cc in it at surgery and my doctor added 3ccs. At the second fill, he added 2ccs, giving me 6ccs total in my 10cc-band. I'm feeling a comfortable level of restriction and I'm losing a little each week so I'm very happy with this level so far, but it's only been a week since my last fill. We'll see how it's going on February 15 when I see the doctor again.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
