:rolleyes2:

Well I did it!! I had my surgery on Monday, 01/21/08, and was told everything went well. I feel alot better today. Still have a little gas pain and kind of tired. I only used my pain meds the first day and after that I was fine. I did have a little nausea which the doc had given me meds for so that wasn't too bad. I honestly don't have much of an appetite so its a little bit of a struggle to make myself drink the broth and Soup like I should. I've mainly been munching on popsicles and sipping on Vitamin Water. I did make myself drink some Tomato Soup and eat some applesauce though. I have my first check up next Monday and then should be getting a fill 3 weeks from then. One of my incisions is itching the heck out of me and there's slight soreness at the port, but nothing I can't handle. I just can't believe it was over so quickly. I went into surgery at 0930 and I was home by 12:00!!!

I just want to say thank you to everyone for the good luck wishes. I started the process in June and once I finished everything in December, the approval itself only took a day or two after all my paperwork was turned in to Aetna. We did have a written exclusion at one point, but because the lady over our wellness program for the city where I work fought for it, it was covered as long as we went through the 6 month process. It really did go by fast. Now here I am on the other side!! Woo Hoo!!!.

Good Luck to all of the soon to be banders! I was just banded 2 weeks ago and I can totally relate to that feeling of excitement and, as you said, that "Twilight Zone" feeling! I'm certainly still figuring out this new life, but so far things have been going really great!

Good luck, I can't wait to hear from you all again once you are back home!

Way to go Jazzy and Alisa!! Congrats on getting thru it and doing so well. Keep it up!! It's REALLY encouraging for pre-banders like me. Less than 2 weeks until I join you!! Please keep us posted with your progress.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
