First Day Of Stage 3: Diced Protein and Smooth Foods

Recommended Posts

Let me preface this entry by mentioning since my surgery 12/27/07 I have not felt hungry. Not even a little. This is fairly amazing to me LOL!

Today I started Stage 3 of the post-op diet given to me by my nutritionist which is diced Proteins and smooth foods. For today I'm following the SAMPLE meal plan as closely as I can just to get a feel for what I should be consuming and as a reference guide to fall back on should I become all frazzled with what counts as Protein, starch, dairy, etc...

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs.

1/4 cup lightly pureed (still chunky!) canned peaches

I didn't finish.

Which is great but makes me worry about my protein intake. I have to read up more about how to supplement that. The info is some where in the Mountain O' Surgery/Diet Papers.

I was actually allowed 1/2 cup of fruit. Uh...yeah...See you're supposed to make protein the priority since your body doesn't make protein on its own and looking at a half cup of peaches made me want to run and hide. So I cut it down to 1/4 cup and still ended up eating only less than an ounce.

I finished nearly all my eggs but I can feel them rising in my throat (Blech)

This is going to be quite a challenge.

All in all I rate this morning a success!

How freakin' awesome does it feel not to be able to finish a tiny plate of food that would have been considered a snack for me a month ago!!!:whoo::clap2:

Amazing weight loss till this point! Good luck on semi-solids, just take it slow and chew very well.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
