Just had 1st fill...

Recommended Posts

I had my lap-band procedure on 11/20/07 w/ an 11cc band. I had my 1st fill today 6cc's. The fill was super fast & didn't hurt a bit :whoo:(just in case anyone else is as nervous about fills as I was)!

My question is that I constantly have the feeling as if I need to burp, but I can't. Has anyone experienced this? This is similar to how I felt for the first couple weeks post-op also.

I'm able to drink no problem, but I'm afraid to eat much. I had a 1/2 bag of weight smart oatmeal for lunch which made me feel full, and I'm holding it down no problem.

I'd like to hear advice on eating just after a fill.

It's hard to give advice because all doctors give different instructions for after a fill. My doctor has us go on Clear Liquids for three days after a fill because you can swell and it puts you at higher risk for band slippage if you eat regular food when swollen. I notice when I start to eat solids again after a fill I have more restriction than I have three or four days later - I guess due to the swelling. You need to be careful for a few days, you don't want to damage anything. You will probably be able to eat much more in a few days, after your first fill you don't usually have too much restriction. Just eat what you can handle and start with liquids, then move on to soft foods. (the oatmeal is probably a good choice but try to eat protein.) Have some cottage cheese or refried Beans. Then move on to chicken.< /p>

I have the exact same thing. I had my lapband surgery Oct. 9 and my first fill on Nov. 30. Right away I had this feeling that I needed to burp, but couldn't. It was the same feeling I had right after the surgery. I think it is trapped air in the pouch, because it would happen with my first drink, but after a bit the air would be replaced by the liquid or food and then it felt fine. Now my restriction from the swelling is gone, and I need another fill...and I no longer have that need to burp feeling. When I have my next fill next week, I am sure that that feeling will come back. It sure is an odd sensation. I think maybe drinking a bit of warm Water or tea before trying to eat....especially in the morning would help with that trapped air.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
