Sweet Spot? And Caloric intake?

Recommended Posts

For those of you who have attained your "sweet spot", how many calories do you consume on a typical day.

Fielding questions now from family members. They have read many posts. I do not have the answers to these yet.

I posted early on about malnutrition/starvation and I don't think my true question was worded correctly because it is along the lines of what my family is asking about calories and nutrition.

I don't really monitor how many calories I eat in a day. To be honest, when I got my band, one of my plans was to not have to count calories anymore. The only time I did was about a month ago just to see what I was doing. I was eating around 1350 a day, which gave me an average weight loss of 1-2 pounds per week. That is perfect, as that is what we should average with the band.

My Dr said to try & stay with 800-1000 calories per day while losing weight. It will increase a little when you are starting to just maintain the weight you are happy at. I felt I was at my sweet spot for a while, but the Dr said it will loosen over time (they predicted 12 weeks for me) since I was still losing fat around my stomach and that your body just "gets used to" the band and adjusts accordingly. So I will eventually need another fill.

I eat about 2000 calories a day and am now averaging a weight loss of 2 pounds per week. In addition I am doing .5 hour cardio 5 days a week and lifting weights for an hour 5 days a week. I can literally feel my body morphing.

THANK you so much for the honest answers.

I am a little gyun shy of the 800 (for me). The 100-2000 you guys wrote help me temendously answering some ?'s for family.

a LOT of the comments I got over the holiday are "of COURSE you are going to lose weight, you are starving yourself...and you cant eat much more than that". One especially unappealing remark was the band being compared to being lockied in a room and thrown in 200-300 calorie meals 2 or 3 times a day..again, OF COURSE you would lose weight.

Seeing that near and over 1000 calories a day can be eaten and lose weight(I know it is specific to each person) I can see that a normal but paired down version of a healthy diet is doable.

The not being hungry is something I cannot fully understand yet. When I try to drink the shakes and eat a Soup for lunch and Breakfast I am starving an hour or two out.

I will ask at the information meeting about the feeling of being full while the larger pouch of your stomach isn't.

I'll ask about where the baroreceptors are(it will make sense if they are in the upper portion of the small pouch).

I'm not sure if I'm at my sweet spot. I'm satisfied with 800-1000 calories a day but I'm also still able to eat quite a bit at night (though I now have much better control over this).

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
