Isopure and upset stomach... related?

Recommended Posts

I have read that whey Protein can cause stomach issues if lactose intolerant. I usually cannot handle drinking milk; but am fine with ice cream and yogurt. So I am not ever sure I am lactose intolerant.

Anyway... my stomach has been really upset the past few days which is around the time I started using the Isopure shakes in the morning. I thought it was just cramps but now I am not sure.

Has anyone else had stomach issues with the Isopure? I thought that it was a high quality protein supplement. Or should I just hang in a little longer and see if it is indeed just stomach cramps.

It may actually be the sweetener that is used to sweeten the shake. Some brands use malitol or sorbitol as a sweetener (as do most sugar free foods) which is actually a baby laxitive. If you are having stomach cramps and diarrhea it might be that. I know that slimfasts really tear my stomach up, and it is the sugarfree sweetener in it that does it.

Totally Agree!, I had to give them up completely, which is fine as my Dr would rather me on solid Protein rather than the liquid form. I couldn't drink one w/out having to be in the bathroom almost immediately - I will after a fill drink the occassional Atkins shakes....But the Isopure is in the pantry collecting dust.

Thanks. No diarrhea here thankfully. My stomach seems to have settled a bit. I may try something else when my Isopure is gone.

My Dr. requires a Protein shake between meals so I need to find something that works.

Sadly LA, I think all of them have the artificial sweetener in them. The main thing is to check the ingredients. If you do try another type, go to like GNC first and tell them the issues that you are having and see if they can recommend anything. Even if you don't buy from there you may possibly get some good advice. If there is not a braindead bozo working the counter. Also, check Whole Foods or any type of all natural health food type store to see if they carry any protien shakes with other types of sweeteners. I think they make one with stevia which is an all natural plant that is used as a sweetener.

my stomach feels heavy and bloated after I drink 4ozs 1%milk with a scoop of whey Protein, I can drink sugar free products with no problem.

I also tried Isopure clear liquid drink and I felt the same way, bloated

could it be the protien itself that can cause this?

Hey Adorkable! What is your final analysis on the Isopure and how it affects your stomach? I had my first bottle of it today and, um, had major diarrhea, but only after I finished the second half of the bottle several hours after the first half. I was just wondering what your experience has been lately. Thanks!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
