5 days left and I haven't been a good boy...

Recommended Posts

My surgery is on the 31st. I lost 10 pounds dieting in November. The problem is I started too early and wimped out with my "Last Suppers" (damn holidays). Is it too late to diet hardcore for the surgery without my liver getting in the way or am I doomed? I am BARELY ok with surgery in the first place and I can assure you I am NOT ok with it at all unless its the simple one.

Did I f*ck up?

:help:

Justin, don't freak out. You are going to be just fine. My surgeon doesn't require a pre op diet so I was allowed to eat ANYTHING until midnight the night before surgery. They can always pull your liver up and out of the way a little (that's what my dr told me). Dr. Spiegal even told us to eat all the "bad" stuff the day before and get it out of our system. You're going to have your surgery and be just fine!! Have a Happy New Year!!

Ditto with mine...no pre-op diet, but I did it anyway. I was trying to get myself in the frame of mind that I needed to change my eating habits. But I can't recall that I lost any significant weight...more than a couple of pounds. So just hang in there and get back on track.

Be careful, my doctor is known for opening someone up and if the liver was too big closing them up and canceling surgery.

It's not to late to fast, you still have 4 days. Clear liquids and very low calorie liquids.

All I kept telling myself was "I have to do this if I want the surgery."

Good luck and hang in there.

Just had a talk with my doc and they told me that they dont open someone for much of anything. They will if you have a BMI of 60-90 (wow). Im currently at 39, so I'm fine. Thanks a lot for your info!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
