I wouldn't say extreme but once my hair stopped falling out and started the growth phase I did notice my scalp is itchier and I sometimes see dandruff, which I never suffered from before.

I recently switched to an oat milk based shampoo which seems to be helping with the itch.

My hair is really annoying me as it is coming back thick (which it was before) but with a curl/kink to it so the crown part where so much regrowth is happening is all thick, puffs up and out but then the longer parts are thin. I asked my hairdresser to cut it all short a few weeks ago and she refused as she said it has such a kink to it that it would look worse shorter and I just have to try and brave it out another few months.

It sounds like your scalp might be reacting to the rapid hair growth, which can sometimes cause itchiness due to increased oil production or sensitivity. Dandruff could be a sign of dryness, buildup, or even a mild fungal imbalance, which might explain the itching too. An anti-itch shampoo could definitely help, especially if it has ingredients like tea tree oil, salicylic acid, or zinc pyrithione, which are great for calming irritation and addressing dandruff.

You might also want to try moisturizing your scalp with a light oil (like argan or jojoba oil) to balance dryness. If the problem persists or worsens, it could be worth checking with a dermatologist to rule out any underlying scalp conditions. But hey, congrats on the extreme growth—that’s a nice silver lining!

Ha. I had that puff bit sticking out when I had regrowth from a site where I had a cyst removed. I flat ironed that little section every dang day until it got enough length to grow down like the rest of my hair. And today I was out shopping and saw all this fluffy regrowth (from applying minoxidil) sticking up and being all bendy. It will be straight as the rest of my hair in time. Try some smoothing products and your that iron in the mean time @FifiLux

Yes, try an anti itch &/or dandruff shampoo & hair and scalp oils @Dchonlee and if it continues see a derm. Out of curiosity, have you changed any hair products lately? Could also be from your hairdryer, flat iron, etc. and general heating in your house in winter adding to your scalp dryness.

I still have an itchy scalp, it drives me crazy. I am regular at the hair salon asking for a lice check. [ I know her well] I now have to buy extreemly expensive, lightweight shampoo to calm it. I put the dryness and dandruff down to a lack of greasy, oily foods in my diet. They make me dump. Never thought it could be surgery driven

I am getting a nano keratin treatment tomorrow to hopefully relax the growth a bit.

ah, me too! my regrowth came back with a curl to it. but i LOVE it, it makes my hair look thicker than it really is. i'm 6+ years out now, so my whole head is now wavy (instead of just the top). hang in there, and just wait it out...you may love it just as much as i do.

I always had thick hair which is why I am the bit frustrated at the moment as the top part, maybe about 5 inches, is thick but the lower part is the hair that did not fall out so is thin. I always wanted a curl to my hair so that would be great but not just at the roots :)

I will just keep cutting up a bit each time and straighten when needed. I can't really tie it back, even though it is to my shoulders as the crown part just pops out after an hour or so. Ah well.

It is not just my head that is itchier though, I find that I am rubbing/scratching my back and arm put area these last few months, feel like a chimpanzee.

Yes!!! I too have itchy scalp and I never attributed it to the surgery even though I never had this before. I've switched to an anti itch dandruff shampoo a few months back..its some what better but still itchy!
