After 2 years, I am APPROVED!!!

Recommended Posts

Started this journey 12/05. Today, 12/20/07, I finally received an approval letter from Humana insurance. I am in shock!!! I don't know what to do!!! I scheduled an appointment with my surgeon in February (he's out of his office due to a horseback riding accident) so I guess we will go from there!! I'm Approved!!!!:whoo::whoo::clap2:

Can't imagine waiting 2 years for approval. Congratulations on your stick-to-it attitude and patience.

I started this process Oct. 1 and my post op diet on Nov. 12, 2007. To date I have lost 18lbs. Hoping for approval by the end of Feb.

There was 2 denials in the 2 year process and Kelly Brown from Obesity Law was involved. (She is awsome) But bottom line is it can be fought!!! Sometimes I thought the insurance "accidentially" lost my request and info, but the law office would nudge them along and things would start moving again. I can't wait to see my feet!!!!

Hi:

Even though your surgeon is out of work you might want to call his office to line up any of the pretesting, like sleep apnea, nutritionist, psychologist, etc. It may help to keep things moving along while he's not available. Maybe the results could be waiting for him/her when he/she returns from medical leave. You've waited two years already.

Congratulations on your persistance and finally getting approved.

Sue

I applaud your persistence!!! Congratulations. I'd have my pre-op admission testing and 2 week of Optifast or whatever diet done in January so I could line right up for surgery as early in February as he can schedule you.

WOW! What a nice Christmas gift!

I've done all this, in fact I had to have a 2nd psy eval the beginning of 12/07 because my last eval was almost 2 years old. I had a sonogram and upper GI on 12/02/05, sleep study on 12/09/05, dietary consult and nutrit. edu. class on 12/28/05, and my 1st psy eval on 01/05/06. Is there anything else I will need to complete??

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
