Hey, all. Surgery went well yesterday. My surgery sight isn't very painful, but the gas is. I'm still recovering in the ICU. They have me here because of getting an RNY and I'm on cpap. The staff has

  • Hi! I just got my surgery date today. It's May 16, very close to yours! I'm a little overwhelmed and waiting for the excitement to kick in :)

I believe my date is going to be May 8th. That's the date they submitted to my primary insurance (united healthcare). I don't have bariatric surgery coverage with my primary though so I'm waiting for

Oh yes. I forgot they made unflavored. Thanks. Hopefully that will help me get through the rest of these day. Thanks.
Sore, gas, and yucky drains. No more vomiting and nausea, no real pain, just tired and bored

Go somewhere fun to get your steps in. Nothing crazy, just somewhere new. Just make sure to bring a protein drink and a water bottle. And not go alone, if you can. A nice shop, farmers market, or park is a good choice. Walking a main street in a cute little town is fun. Once we get a free weekend, we're planning on a trip to a museum. Of course, this is all based on how you're doing, so don't push yourself too much. Start slow and work your way up, and give yourself grace to stop if you need to. My team wanted me walking 2 miles a day, almost immediately. It's a lot, but if I can focus on something else, it makes it easier. And BTW, I still haven't made the 2 miles, but I'm getting close.
Hey, so I’m getting my RnY with HH surgery soon and some of you have spoken about having issues swallowing/drinking right after surgery. Is it more of a sore throat feeling or deeper down into the hernia/ stomach? I currently have a sore throat and it’s almost impossible for me to even sip water it hurts so bad… just wondering if that’s a possibility after surgery.

@AmandaD. It's hard to give a definitive yes or no. Everyone is different. My experience. I didn't have any issues drinking. I had rny, but not hernia repair. My issue was, liquids taste off. I'm still dealing with that almost 3 weeks out.

@AmandaD. I had the sleeve done 8 days ago and had no issues. No sore throat or anything, just dry and chapped lips from the ventilator. The issue is having the liquids with 75% of your stomach removed. It’s just a trial and error. Getting used to taking tiny sips out of medicine cups, but it’s crazy how quick that improves. I’m already up to drinking about 50 Oz of water per day. I’m down 12 pounds since my surgery 8 days ago.

Hey guys,

i had a gastric bypass yesterday. I spent most of the day sleeping, then woke up about six hours, and went for a walk around the recovery area. I was not allowed to drink anything so in order to take away the dryness of my lips I used a wet gauze. The gauze also helped to clean the inside of my mouth to remove the anesthesia remnants. I was transferred to a room about an hour later to continue my recovery. I have experienced cramping, gas, gas pains in my collarbone, but it has been manageable. Today I have spent the day walking a bit, sitting on a chair and moving around the room so I don’t lay down. I had a G.I. test done this afternoon, which is done to make sure the stomach doesn’t have leaks. I was cleared for stage one diet, which consists of 2 ounce of chicken broth, 2 ounce of tea, and 3.5 ounce of Jell-O. I managed to sip the broth, but there was some cramping so I stopped. I read somewhere that I should take 30 minutes to sip the 2ounces.. that’s all for now guys. I’m supposed to be discharged tomorrow. How is everyone doing? Would love to hear about your journey.

Holy cow! I’m a week out from my RNY and still can’t put that much liquid in my pouch. Doing well otherwise except just tired and a bit weak. Meeting all my protein and fluid goals so far. Good luck to ya!!

7 days Post Op now. Sadi-s

Wow this has been so hard!! My entire entertainment selection has consisted of people eating those unhealthy foods that we shouldn’t be having for a long while.
My head hunger is insane. Erik the electric videos, Instagram, Facebook, everywhere is just delicious food videos. It’s been really hard.

I’ve really struggled getting through the liquids stage. I’m not sure how to keep going.

I ordered a soup from a local bakery today because I’ve been struggling eating. I know I haven’t been getting near enough.
Loaded baked potato soup that I put in the blender. It was amazing. I’m not sure if it’s something I’m allowed to eat or not but I went slow and let my tummy talk for me. Can’t wait to be out of this liquids stage. Feeding my whole family delicious food like Alfredo and Grilled Cheese and Pesto and every other thing that they are eating has been so hard.

I know other people are struggling but it’s been pretty bad for me. Been extremely light headed and dizzy today and decided I really needed to focus liquids and getting more food. Hopefully things stable out.

My two go-to’s are Vanilla Pudding (Sugar Free) Life saver, Cream of Chicken Soup, and I just had my first bit of Greek Yogurt and honestly I am grateful I did. I didn’t realize how well my stomach would take to the yogurt.

I’m about 32 oz of water today and it’s 5 PM which is a lot better than every other day. I know I’m dehydrated so I really need to get it under control but I’m doing my best!

I know this is all a jumbled mess of updates, but again lightheaded and foggy minded lol.
The reason I took the time to post this is because wanted to check in and see if anybody else is struggling like this? Or am I an outlier minority? Goodluck everyone. I think once I can have a string cheese next week, refried beans and scrambled eggs, everything will be better I hope.

That’s all for now…. >:(
Hello all, my surgery was May 3rd, sleeve gastrectomy. 2 weeks post op yesterday. Very happy to be moving out of the liquid stage. Congratulations and good luck to everyone!
For those who are around 1 1/2 post op would you be ready to drive 5 hours to see friends and family for a long weekend? My surgery got moved to June 7th and I have a friends get together 5 hours away the weekend after. I’ll be 10 days post op. I know everyone’s post op is different but generally speaking???

You would maybe be okay for the drive. However, the dietary restrictions may be hard to follow. You'll be on full liquid, no alcohol, tired. I would seriously think it through.

Great to hear from so many of you. I'm meeting liquid goals most days, thank god for broth as its half my liquid at this stage. I want to be at the puree stage so badly. I hate the liquid stage. Only a few more days now. I'm going to instant pot 6 different meals this weekend so I have my pureed foods ready to go.

I'm losing about 2.5 pounds a day right now. What the heck right? It obviously won't last but wow.

For those on puree how is it going? How much can you eat per meal?
