Freaking out...just a bit

Hi my name is Angie, I am from Bakersfield,CA. I have my band surgery tomorrow 12/17. I am currently freaking out about this whole thing. I have never had a surgery in my life, and here I am volunteering. Is there something wrong with me?? I have been on the liquid diet for the past two weeks and have lost 12.5 lbs on that alone. I have been reading some of the posts left by others and I feel a bit more at ease about my procedure to come. About two years ago, I almost went through with the gastric bypass (rny), but chickened out a week before because the nurses were really rude with me. BUt, here I am again, and so far so good. Although, it's not too late to change my mind. Looking forward to meeting some new people with much needed advice.

Welcome Angie, I to am waiting on the ok for my surgery. I am so glad that you did not go through with the Gastric Bypass it is so unsafe. My cousin had it done and she has a wasting look to her,she has lost most of her hair and feels bad all the time. The lap-band does not change your anatomy so it is much safer. I know all will go well tomorrow for you but I will keep you in my prayers as a little extra precaution ;)

I can't wait to be where you are! I keep trying to be excited but I know that when I am less that 24 to surgery that I will too be freaking out. I hope that when that times comes you will be telling me that I have nothing to worry about and that you are glad you did it. I hope all went well today. Please keep me updated!

Hi Myggr,

Welcome and Congrats on your new BAND...tell us everything!

Mytggr-how are you doing? I hope all went well. I will be banded tomorrow morning, I'm nervous/excited. Hope you are well.

Hi,

I just had my surgery on 12/6/07. I had never had surgery before this either. I think it's normal to be a little nervous. But you'll be fine. Once I arrived at the hospital, it was over before I knew it! Don't worry!!! I lost 12 lbs on my pre-op diet too!

Ok! I am home. I just got here about an hour ago. I am still trying to adjust my bed for comfort. The surgery was a success, I have little pain, just soreness but that is to be expected. The only thing I had a little difficulty with today was when I first ate. I took two spoons of jello, back to back, and I had to wait it out. I just nauseaus that's all. No regrets. I am looking forward to this journey, and along with you all as well. Thanks for the support, and good luck to the rest of you!

Yeah!! I'm glad to hear you are home and doing well!

hi my name is shelly i read your post. i understand your fears and anxiety. but dont worry things will go great i just had my surgery on 12/12/07 and i feel great i have lost 29 lbs so far. i had minimal pain about 3 days worth. i still have tenderness if i turn the wrong way. but all in all i feel great. dont worry you will do great!

Hope everthing went well! Anyone else afraid, please remember surgeries are done everyday and the majority of them go so smoothly and many are much more invasive than lapband surgery. The process of sedating you before the anesthesia starts really helps relax you. Just breathe through each step and you can get through it.

The first four days were the hardest for me. Gas pains were like a heart attack. After that things were better. As I healed and felt better, i found I was gradually increasing my food intake from approx 500 calories a day and now up to 1000 a day. That's why I know I'm ready for a fill and glad the Dr. doens;t wait too long for it.

LapBand placed 11/27/07

First fill tomorrow 12/20/07 I need it!

No pre-op diet required, 2 days Clear liquids before surgery.

Highest/Day of Sx/Current/Goal 5'0" (shortgal)

230 / 212 / 202 /Whatever I acheive and MAINTAIN!

Current Goal to be under 200 by end of Dec.

I am also short 4'11 and weigh 190. I am going Jan 15th to seminar. I am scared but need to make a change in my life. I pray this is right for me. I have tried it all. I want to live long for my grandchildren. Something people write scare me. Help me have confidence.

I know Jayne I am scared too, but honestly once you get enough information you will feel better. At first I was kind of depressed ...wow I am so fat that only medical intervention will cure me. Then I joined this forum, did a lot of reading and research on the "disease" of obesity. I did not think it was a disease...but now I know better I know that no matter how hard I try I "can" lose weight but the odds of keeping it off are very very small. I stopped dieting because every time I went on a diet I gained more weight. Again depressing. So here I am 5'2.5 and 202 pounds and this is where I will stay unless I decide there is a better way...and I did decide I want to live! As long as I am this weight my chances of a heart attack increase tremendously, as well as diabetes, and other sorts of nasty stuff. I want to see my grandkids, to be able to walk or hike, ride a bike with little or no pain. I want to take an aerobics class again. I decided I want to live a long healthy life as opposed to this sedintary, gluotenous life I already have.

Just remember anything new can be frightening so educate yourself...and best wishes Lana
