  1. Hello Merry Losers! I am still here, just been super busy. Since summer I have been through a whirlwind, it seems like anyways. It started when I met a guy online in June, we got married in August!! He is so cool. Married life must be good since I have only lost 15 since July. We took a delayed honeymoon in December, a 14 day cruise through the Panama Canal, and I LOST 5lbs then. That was cool. Lately, I have really let go of my eating habits and need to tighten my belt up and do this right. I am planning to go in for a fill, and get a new start on my eating and excercising. That's pretty much what has been going on in my world. I'll check in later...
  2. I'm still here! Just been busy with work, my new body and a new love in my life. Everything has been great. Weight loss has been moving like a herd of turtles. Excercise is going well. Just wanted to check in...

Tell us about your summer NSVs

Cerrin, I know the feeling...I've had dates with two guys in the past month because of my new found confidence. This is so cool! I didn't think of that being an NSV, what was I thinking. My last date prior to this was a blind date 5 years ago.

Tell us about your summer NSVs

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I have been lurking though. I have been super busy with end of the year things at the school I work at. Just this past month, I put on an XL shirt and it wasn't bulging at the seams! That felt good. So, of course that led to me trying on every shirt in my closet...Fun! I have plenty of clothes to look forward to. According to the scale, I haven't lost much, but I can see the difference in my clothes. As well as in my activity. I have become more active, I am now jogging a full mile, non-stop, and swimming another 45 minutes afterwards almost everyday. I guess the muscle conversion is making it's debut, but it still is awesome to feel this great. Like Chris said, I am still having a hard time making the right choices, but I only have myself to blame on that one. The great thing is that I haven't gained, I have just leveled out or lost. Keep up the great work everyone. I enjoy reading all about it!

  9. Just checking in...I too have been having trouble with the drinking thing. I'm ok at home, but when we go out to eat, I order a beverage and drink away while i eat. I had my first fill at the end of Feb, and since then I lost about 8 lbs., but gained most of it back over the spring break. This sucks! I didn't change anything, still eating the same, and exercising. I don't know what gives. If i look at the big picture, I have only lost about 28-30, including the 12 i lost pre-op. In 3 months, that sucks. I'm getting tired of this up and down thing. Congrats to all of you that have done so well...although I am jealous. I did go down one size though, and had to take a link off my watch. But that's it. My next fill is supposed to be either May or June, according to my Doc. Any suggestions?
  10. Hey Everyone, Just thought I'd check in and let you know that I had my first fill today too! Banded 12/17. Boy, was it an ordeal... First of all, I was nervous as to what to expect. Then when my Dr. went to give me my fill, he couldn't find my port, and he was pressing on my port area and just inserting the needle and trying to feel around for it. He did give me a shot of lidocaine before we started, so that helped. Then after 20 minutes, we finally found it. But by that time, I had been standing, then lying almost upside down just to find the port. Nothing for me to get upset about, it was just interesting. All part of the experience. He told me to stay on liquids for five days and ease back into food, and then come back in 2-3 months. He told me that I had a 2cc's in my band orginally, and now he added 2.4cc's, totaling 4.4cc's in a 10cc band. So far so good. Let's see if this jump starts my weight loss. I have lost about 26 ? lbs including the 13 pre op. My appt was in the morning, so I took the rest of the day off and met up with a friend that was at Jury Duty. I had the Soup, took me a little while to eat it, but it was doable. I just need to concentrate on eating SLOWLY. I took a couple of spoonfuls back to back and felt it wanted to come up. Luckily, it didn't. SO that was my day, hope you guys had a good one.

No second fill for me today

I was beginning to feel/think that I was the only Merry Loser that had not had a fill yet. I was banded 12/17 and am scheduled for my first fill on 2/27. I'm kinda nervous and scared about what to expect, but it's gotta be done.
  12. HI Everybody! Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I've been focused on a carrot dangling in front of my cart lately. LOL! Haven't really lost much according to the scale, but I had to buy some new pants. My friends at work were telling me I was starting to look like a flying squirrel with my old ones. My focus lately? I am going to VEGAS!!!! this lovely three day weekend. At this point, I don't care how slow I am losing I just need a break. I am sick of school, sick of the school I work at, and sick of obsessing over my weight. AND, I am recovering from being sick with this flu epidemic. So far, have not had a fill, ever. I am scheduling one next week. Still, not eating more than a cup, not hungry during the day, but still eat a snack. Excercise 4 days a week, cardio 45-60 minutes, and still only lost 3 lbs since Jan 2. What gives? Who knows? Right now, I don't care. I will re-focus next week. Everyone tells me I look great, but I am the only one that feels otherwise. I feel frustrated, but not sad or depressed. So that's cool. I do have more energy. Just wanted to catch ya guys up.! Late!
  13. Thanks for listening to me complain. I just keep telling myself it's a slow process. I am making good choices when I eat, and I am exercising 4 times a week for at least an hour per session, ans sometimes more. I just don't know why I am at such a standstill. I can't be developing that much muscle, can I? I guess what frustrates me, is that I lost 10 lbs the week right after surgery, and once the mushies and soft foods came across, the weight loss stopped. I did not get a chance to call my Dr.'s office today, so I will try for tomorrow, again. Again, thanks for listening!
  14. Hi gang, Great job to all of you and your progress. Myself, just struggling. I got my band on 12/17, and so far have only lost 12 lbs. since. I am still only eating 3/4 cup and getting full, and my Dr. said to come in for a fill only after I eat more than a cup. So, I still have not had a fill. I so envy you guys...I am going to call tomorrow and insist that I get a fill. I have been struggling with the same 3 pounds for the last two weeks. I am so ready to just let this go, but then I think of everything that I have been through for this. Hope I don't get anyone down because of my battle. Wish me luck!
  15. I was banded on 12/17 too. So far I haven't had a fill, but I am still monitoring how much I am eating. According to my Dr., he said that once I eat more than a cup full, I can come in for a fill. Also, about that shoulder pain, I asked my Dr. when I went in on my follow up visit, he said that it's because the band is placed and is just under the diaphram and pressure from the stomach getting full causes the band to rub against it and cause that pain. But he said it will go away with the healing. As far as my incision sites, three have almost disappeared with no scar, and my port site and another are almost gone. YAY! Little to no scarring.
  16. My name is Angie, I was banded on Dec. 17th in Bakersfield, CA (central CA). I was on liquids for a week, mushies for two weeks, and am now eating semi solid to solid foods. I work at a school district, so I went back to work yesterday from "vacation". I started going to the fitness center today, our school has one on site with elipticals, treadmills, weight machines, the whole bit. But, for now I have been cleared for cardio workout so weights are off limits...So far since two weeks before surgery, I have lost 22 lbs. I went to my first support group meeting tonight. It was quite interesting. I learned alot. I am expecting my first fill in the next three weeks, depending on the rate of weight loss from now until then.

    I am pissed off!

I feel you. I spent the months of Nov and Dec taking care of my pre op business. I had surgery on Dec. 17th, the first day of our Winter Break. (I work at the Admin office at a school) So, no one is around, I went to work today, and my voicemail is flooded with calls wishing me luck, and hoping that I get well soon. Some even said that they would love to go shopping with me for new clothes. I was totally dumbfounded. The only person that knew was my boss, the Superintendent. I had to tell him why i was going to be off for a couple weeks. Now, I am anticipating what you experienced as the teachers come in this week and next... But like it was mentioned before, we are currently the HOT NEWS, and will have our 15 minutes, before someone else takes the spotlight, whether they want it or not. Maybe this is a school thing? I am only concerned about doing my job, and not in what anyone else thinks, their thoughts don't pay my bills. I know it's hard, but it will boil over and we will be able to move on with the current.

    December Post-Op Thread

Hi everyone! I just saw this post. I was banded on 12/17 and everything went well, and so far so good. Looking forward to reading and sharing advice with all of you. Finally, I have people that can relate to me, and my family won't sit there and look at me funny when I say something bad-related!

    Disappointing Post-Op appt....

I just went in for my post-op visit on 01/02, (2 weeks out) and I was told, come back for a fill when you can eat more than a cup and not feel full. I was like, uh ok? He explained that the healing has to complete and that I need to watch what I put in my mouth. He didn't ask anything about what I was eating, especially since he had told me the day after surgery that I was on liquids until he said so. Little does he know, that I left liquids the first week, graduated myself from mushies and am eating regular foods. But, still not exceeding the 1/2 cup measurement. So, I guess that's good...right? So far since surgery, I've lost about 14, but gained 5 in the last week. (Effects of real food)
  20. I don't feel so bad reading this post. I was banded on 12/17 and have lost about 12 lbs since then. But, I noticed the last week that I am gaining, so far i have gained 4 lbs. I don't know what's going on. I have watching what i eat, and i don't eat very much. I am just getting frustrated with myself. I start to think that maybe this isn't going to work either. But i have to remind myself that i haven't had a fill yet, so there is still hope. Wish me luck!
  21. I was banded on 12/17, and I feel good. I do get an occasional burning pain under my left breast as well, that's where my port is. As far as diet, I am starting to eat mushies, even though my follow up surgeon visit is next week. This liquid diet is getting old.
  22. I was told to stay from veggies like brocolli, and those that are gassy, (don't want to stretch the pouch) and also to stay away from bread. It has too many carbs, and it is sometime hard to digest becaue it doughy. That's what the dietician told me.
  23. I feel you. I got my period the night before my surgery. I was banded on Dec. 17th. I lost about 14 lbs pre-surgery on the liquid diet and since surgery I am down 10.5 lbs. But yesterday and today have been the hardest, with all the food around. I did sneak in a few carrots, but I chewed them until there was no carrot left in them, and spit out the pulp. We will get through this, this is the difficult part. Just learning to adjust to our bands.
  24. Hi my name is Angie, I am from Bakersfield,CA. I have my band surgery tomorrow 12/17. I am currently freaking out about this whole thing. I have never had a surgery in my life, and here I am volunteering. Is there something wrong with me?? I have been on the liquid diet for the past two weeks and have lost 12.5 lbs on that alone. I have been reading some of the posts left by others and I feel a bit more at ease about my procedure to come. About two years ago, I almost went through with the gastric bypass (rny), but chickened out a week before because the nurses were really rude with me. BUt, here I am again, and so far so good. Although, it's not too late to change my mind. Looking forward to meeting some new people with much needed advice.
  25. Ok! I am home. I just got here about an hour ago. I am still trying to adjust my bed for comfort. The surgery was a success, I have little pain, just soreness but that is to be expected. The only thing I had a little difficulty with today was when I first ate. I took two spoons of jello, back to back, and I had to wait it out. I just nauseaus that's all. No regrets. I am looking forward to this journey, and along with you all as well. Thanks for the support, and good luck to the rest of you!
