6 weeks out - I'm very worried - could I stretch my sleeve with this amount of food??

Recommended Posts

It's pretty much a case of "your mileage may vary". I was told of all kinds of things that could happen - feeling overly nauseous, hair falling out in clumps, things like that - but I never ran into any of that. And when it comes time to eat food, I generally do not have an issue. That being said, I confess to being a little surprised that six weeks out, you were able to take in that much. Most of what I've been getting from the surgeon or the nutritionist is "take it slow".

I'm just over nine weeks post-op myself and still testing the waters (I had potatoes - shredded "hash brown" types - for the first time since the surgery this past weekend, and I managed okay), but what I would suggest would be to dial it back if you're not 100% sure you should be going at the rate you are, regardless of whether or not you can. "One day at a time" and "it's not a sprint, it's a marathon", and all the other one-liners my surgeon's office has given me, heh heh.

When I was researching sleeve vs gastric bypass, one of the doctors videos discussed the sleeve procedure and explained the operation in detail. the taller you are the longer the stomach thus the more it can hold. Honestly, we are talking the difference of 1-2 ounces though after the sleeve procedure. I believe his reference picture was a small banana vs a larger banana.

Wowzers! So it might be true then; taller sleevers simply have taller sleeves.

Thanks for the post Kelly 😍- it's given good insight

Despite my ability to eat more food, I'm averaging 4.8lbs loss each week. I'm well chuffed with that!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
