Sodium in all my liquids . . .

Recommended Posts

I'm one of the people still on liquids after surgery . . . and man all the sodium in the Soups and premixed EAS drinks and even some in the Propell . . . this has GOT to be making me retain Water or something . . . since this is almost all I'm living on (well SF Jello and popcicles) . . . you would think I would be waisting away . . . but this week my scale isn't moving . . . I wonder if it is something to do with the sodium . . . can't wait for mushies on Monday!

try to get Soups with low sodium seeing is how low sodium can retain Water. but i dont really see much of a difference with it since even though you make a cup you dont always finish a cup. i used wylers bullion cubes instead of the campbells Soup. that way i didnt have to worry about taking out the chunks during my liquid phase. im now on pureed/mushy phase . and i can barely eat a half of cup and im satisfied.

but i love it cause before i never knew when to stop.

Chris...I recently noticed all the sodium in my Sf waters (propelle, nutrilite) and started just drinking plain Water. I was stalled for a few days, and since just drinking water..I lost a few lbs more...I know its hard, when all you can have is liquid. Im in the same boat as you. You get bored easily. I think you can get some low sodium broth as well...

can't wait for mushies on Monday!

Well Chris I have a confession ... I moved to mushies a few days early. I've been on a week long trip and kind of got pushed into it. It's easy to do Protein drinks when you're home, but when you're driving for 12 hours it becomes more difficult. I know I'm supposed to wait until Monday but I ended up having a cup of Pintos and cheese from Taco Bell and some mashed potatoes from KFC while on the road.

And yes, they were DELISH! YUM. ;)

Oh Heavy . . . Good for you! I've moved on to mushies now too . . . and ff pintos with cheese and salsa are GREAT! Haven't done mashed potatoes yet, but will on Christmas day . . . It isn't easy traveling I'm sure. I went to Breakfast this morning with some friends - first time since my surgery. Had a scrambled egg with cheese and some grits . . . and that was GREAT!

Chris,

I'm on my 2 week pre-op liquid diet and when I got weighed the other day for my pre-op I nearly fell on the floor because I actually gained 4 pds. For the life of me I couldn't figure out why since I have been on liquids for about 10 days. It finally clicked when I got home that it was from the sodium in the Soups and some of the other liquids I have been drinking. I do have some of the low sodium soups but the cheddar brocolli is my favorite and it's loaded with sodium. I'm going to be careful from this point on. I thought it was just me!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
