Dysphagia

Hey all I'm about a week post op things are finally feeling better except for when I swallow...anything....liquid, protein, jello, popsicle it hurts and then I burp...is this normal?

Sounds pretty normal for just a week post-op. Remember, they had a tube down your throat during surgery. You're still healing. Eat slowly, allowing less air to formulate. Sip, sip, sip your water all day long.

That may be why some programs say no straws? The sore throat is normal like GradyCat said.

I don't think the sore throat is from the tube if you are already a week out; that usually resolves in a day or so.

I think what's more likely is that you're taking sips/swallows that are too big or too frequent. I would SLOW DOWN and see if that helps.

The burping/hiccupping happens to me when I eat too much or too fast, in addition to the throat pain, which did get better.
