Am I eating too much?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I am two weeks post op. My doctor had me on a clear liquid diet one week after surgery, then clear liquid with Protein for another week. I have just started soft foods. My doctor said I should only be doing about 6 small bites in 30 minutes. I'm doing more than that. I had about 8-10 bites of cottage cheese yesterday, then I had a piece of cheese with hummus, then about 4-5 oz of tuna tetrazzini for dinner. Then I had a small cup of sugar free pudding later for snack. I am having a hard time getting my Water in. Could that have something to do with it? I don't want to go through this surgery for naught. Help!

do you feel restriction? I would focus on Water and Protein first and foremost. I am surprised that you would eat that much tuna tettrazini but everyone is different. I don't think that your caloric intake is too much. I would reach out to nutritionist and see what they think.

Hi there,

My doctor said that you may be able to eat more but you shouldn’t because your nerves endings have just been cut and are healing so your stomach isn’t able to tell you how full you are. You could cause unknown damage because you simply can’t feel the pain and think you can eat more. He told me after about two months I would be able to tell the difference but early on it’s risky. Also Water is more important than food early on, if you become dehydrated your body can have longer weight loss stalls because it is unable to produce more glycogen or something with a G. (Sorry just repeating what my doc said a few days ago to me). I’m two and a half weeks post op.

Hope this helps!

I am a week ahead of you and I’m the same boat. My dietician said not to worry as soft foods are not as restrictive as regular foods. She said once I start eating regular food (on Saturday for me) I’ll notice a big difference.
in terms of why some of us can eat more than others she said mostly that comes down to surgery trauma and healing which is totally individual.

if in doubt though contact your own nutritionist - I was glad I did. It gave me much better peace of mind,

best of luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
