When did you get water/ice chips after VSG?

Hello,

How long after surgery did you have to wait to wet your whistles? Lol. I'm a little panicky over dry mouth. I'm a HUGE water drinker so of all things this is stressing me out most right now. I'm scheduled for 1/18 (after two cancelled dates!).

  • They brought me water to drink pretty much as soon as I got to my recovery room. I didn't really have to wait at all.

  • I got ice chips as soon as I got to my room. I got water as soon as they did my leak test

  • Likewise, they wanted to keep the water consumption down until after the leak test (which was frustratingly delayed) so it was mostly those foam popsickle sticks and a few ice chips until then.

Ice chips within like an hour of the anesthetic wearing off

As soon as I got to my room. Has bad dry mouth from the nausea patch.

What is involved in a leak test?

I was allowed to sit on water in recovery right after I woke up.

I don't remember having dry mouth but I got water once I got out of recovery and in my own room (about 1 hour).

They took me to radiology and had me drink an ounce or two of some type of dye and they watch it under fluro Xray to make sure your new system does not have any leaks anywhere. Its pretty simple. It doesnt taste too good and it wasn't easy to get down but it wasn't awful either......its pretty standard.

I didn’t have a leak test. Just in case you don’t have one you are not the only one.
