Hi,

After my gastric bypass op , I recovered really well. I had little to none gas pain and could drink easily the day after. My surgeon commented that I looked like I hadnt had the operation because I was up and about doing well. I thought in terms of pain, I got lucky. SInce then I ve been eating solid foods earlier than expected ( I am now a month and a week post op. )

WELL. That changed yesterday. I had a kebab (I know I know, it was a one off takeaway. At least it had Protein I guess) and it went down well. Until a couple of hours later, I was in agony ! The gas pain! The nausea! The 'stuck' feeling in my throat! Oh my gosh what a miserable experience. Couldnt sleep, tried to walk around , pain and vomiting ughh.

I think the combination of eating too much (I didnt have all of it, only a third), too quickly and its oil content caused this. To think I was lucky to avoid this pain the first time around the op. I guess I needed to experience it to show I am still healing.

Feel so stupid ! But I learnt my lesson. Gas pain is no joke.

That may have actually been a mild case of dumping syndrome. Sounds like it at any rate. For me it's wheat that sets it off. I get stomach pain, cold sweat, the shakes, diarrhea, light headed, and the WORST nausea! (I've had brain surgery and I thought nothing could top the nausea you feel after that, but holy crap dumping syndrome tops it!) After the, unfortunately unavoidable bathroom trips, I lay on the couch in misery because the nausea just won't go away for a good hour or so. So yeah, my opinion is it was probably a case of dumping syndrome. It may have been the oil or the fat or something else that set it off, but take note so if it happens again you can figure out what caused it

That’s one benefit of the surgery for many of us: if we make a wrong choice, push to fast or Detour from our path we’ll pay for it.... big time. And it ain’t pleasant.

Hope you feel better soon.

fat will do that to me - or eating too fast. Or some meats just don't sit well sometimes. I ate half a reuben sandwich once and felt the same way. I eventually threw it up - and at the time I was at least three years out of surgery. BUT - those have a lot of fat, and corned beef may be one of those meats my stomach can't always deal with

not sure that sounds like true dumping - that usually also involves racing heartbeat, sweating, diarrhea, chills. I think it either didn't agree with you, or you might have just eaten it too fast.

You just got a body learning lesson You are way to soon to be eating oily spiced kababs! But we all have been there done that and paid for it. Switch to Avocado oil seems to be less aggressive on the tummy - Even now me and Olive oil do not get along

Now you know what t feels like and you won't want to do it again. Everybody's done it and we learn from it. Take care.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
