Under eye circles are DARK

Recommended Posts

Got RNY 7 weeks ago. Lost 35pds so far but I've been noticing these crazy dark underwear circles lately.

Is this a common side effect? I'm not getting 1.5 lt of Water regularly since getting liquids down is a huge challenge but am getting my 65g of Protein.< /p>

Funny you should mention this because I have noticed that my under eye circles have been especially bad lately! I’ve always had dark under eye circles, even as a child, but I swear they’re worse than ever now. Hard to say if it’s because of surgery/weight loss or working 80 hours per week, though...

I think dark circles/sunken eyes are pretty common with drastic weight loss. Combine that with possible dehydration and/or nutritional deficiencies and you've got yourself a recipe to looking like Skeletor.

If it helps any, my dark/sunken eye look went away a few months after I finished with weight loss phase...I'd like to attribute this to the increase in carbs in my diet, but I dunno.....*shrugs*

I'm not sure if there is a correlation, but I was getting very concerned about the dark circles under my eyes. I was having my follow up with my PCP and asked her to check my Vitamin levels and apparently I had been overdoing it on the Iron (I bought the BariatricPal Multivitamin ONE with 45mg of Iron). So I stopped taking that one every day (especially since too much iron = constipation) and now my dark circles are gone (and so is the constipation!) I am meeting with my doctor on Thursday (my PCP not my surgeon) and I am going to ask how much Iron I should be taking so I can hopefully get this right!

Hmm, I’m taking extra iron (81 mg/day) at my endocrinologist’s direction and I haven’t had any bloodwork since I increased my iron. But I’ve read that dark under eye circles can be caused by iron deficiency, so I don’t know what to think.

Between the dark circles and thinning hair, I truly look like death warmed over, but ironically, everyone keeps telling me how great I look just because I’m less fat than I used to be. Kind of a sad commentary on how society views body size.

How long until they went away?? I've gotten myself some correcting makeup and a script for blood work but I've never looked worst!

Plus I've only lost 40 pds so it's not that drastic yet!

Im not taking any Iron.. I may need to start because I agree that this was something my daughter used to get when her iron levels we're low. We'd increase her tuna consumption and it would help but with this surgery I don't know if that would be enough.

If I remember correctly, I noticed a significant easing up on the darkness/sunken-ness around 2-2.5 months into maintenance; they looked relatively normal (for me) by about 5 months into maintenance.

Oddly enough, I weighed less (and still do) when my eye issue corrected itself than when weight loss phase ended.

I hadn't thought about the correlation. Interesting. Looks like from the responses several people have experienced it.

Well blood tests came back and dr told me I'm anemic. I started on my Iron supplements today with the hopes that it's up by January.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
